Hello everyone – time to write a well overdue update to my website!

Well, I have been busy since the finish of the Transat AG2R La Mondiale! Having fought for a podium place during three hard weeks at sea we finally finished 4th, frustrating to miss the podium but in our minds we did all we could and the others were simply that little bit faster than us. Proud of our hard work and our result in a very strong line-up.

I had one day at home after St Barths to unpack and re-pack my bag before heading off to Paris for a couple of meetings, then direction the Seychelles!

This was my second participation in the SEYCHELLES REGATTA – a luxury corporate event combining top level racing (albeit in cruising caravan-ahem-sorry catamarans) sharing our passion for offshore sailing, and discovering some of the most beautiful islands. This year I skippered the yacht “C’est La Vie” with local knowledge from Jude and Justin, and the enthusiastic crew  of the owners – Craig, Linda and Peter plus Mandy, DerWaal, Laura and Darren. We came fourth in the racing, and third in the deep sea fishing competition!

Next on the agenda was a different kind of water sport – quite a new and very popular sport – SUP or “Stand Up Paddle”. I have been training with mine since last Autumn as it is great all-round sport and fantastic for balance and core stability as well as stamina. Last weekend I took part in the Brest event of the NAISH Stand-Up-Paddle Tour. And WON the girls division!! A bit of a surprise and only because the really top girls weren’t there. Much fun, new friends, and un-planned swim (brrrrrr the sea temp in Brest is a bit less than in the Seychelles!!)

Next SUP event is the Hoalen Crossing from the Four Lighthouse to Ile Vierge (12 miles = 3-5 hours paddling!!!) So I will be training a bit more seriously for that!

Now, I am concentrating on my real GOAL – to secure the budget for my Vendee Globe 2012 campaign and things are moving forward, slowly but surely. I am optimistic that I will find the budget in time to be able to build my dream boat and attempt to get on that elusive podium.

Sam x
